Dog fouling in the village

The Community Council has had complaints about dog fouling. It is an offence carrying an £80 fine, and a cause of toxocariasis in children. Report it to the Community Safety Team on 03033 333000. Free bags are available at Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright libraries.

The Murray Hall

The village’s main hall, on Main Street. There is a main hall, an annexe and a kitchen, and the rooms can be hired individually or together.

What it costs

What you are hiringPer hourPer day
Main Hall£10.00£60.00
Annexe£5.00£40.00
Whole hall£15.00£80.00
KitchenIncludedIncluded

The hall is hired for at least 1 hour at a time. You are charged whichever works out cheaper, the hourly rate or the day rate — you never pay more for a long booking than a day would cost.

Children’s events are free; a donation towards running costs is appreciated but never required.

Booking it

Anyone can hire the hall. You do not need an account and you do not need to be from the village.

That page has the availability calendar, the rates and the form, and explains what happens after you send a request. Please read the conditions of hire first — sending the form means accepting them.

What is on at the hall

Times already booked are not free to hire. The booking calendar shows what is available.

Nothing is in the diary for the next few months. If you are running something, please tell us about it.
