Dog fouling in the village

The Community Council has had complaints about dog fouling. It is an offence carrying an £80 fine, and a cause of toxocariasis in children. Report it to the Community Safety Team on 03033 333000. Free bags are available at Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright libraries.

Planning applications

The council’s role in planning

Auchencairn Community Council is a statutory consultee on planning. Dumfries and Galloway Council must notify us of applications in our area, and we are recognised as a competent body to make representations about them.

That means we see applications before they are decided, and we can pass on what the community thinks. We are consulted — we do not decide. The decision rests with Dumfries and Galloway Council as planning authority.

How to comment on an application

Anyone can comment on a planning application directly, and comments from residents carry weight in their own right. You do not have to go through the community council.

  • Search for the application on the Dumfries and Galloway Council planning portal. [Link to be added]
  • Comments must usually be made within 21 days of the application being advertised. [To confirm for D&G]
  • Tell us as well, at the contact address, if you would like the community council to consider it at a meeting.

What we have responded to

Responses the community council has submitted are published here.

To be added: a live list of current applications with their comment deadlines. Until that is built, applications are discussed at meetings — see the agendas and minutes.
