Dog fouling in the village

The Community Council has had complaints about dog fouling. It is an offence carrying an £80 fine, and a cause of toxocariasis in children. Report it to the Community Safety Team on 03033 333000. Free bags are available at Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright libraries.

Hire a hall

The Murray Hall is available to hire by anyone — you do not need an account, and you do not need to be from the village. Tell us what you would like and when, and a councillor will be in touch.

Sending the form is an enquiry, not a confirmed booking. If you are not logged in we will email you a link to confirm your address — the time is not held until you open it.

When is it free?

The Murray Hall — when it is free in May 2027

Availability for May 2027. Each day says whether it is free.

Choose a day to start a booking. A day marked partly booked still has time free — the times already taken are shown on it, including the regular groups that meet here. Only confirmed and requested bookings count; nothing is held while somebody is still filling in a form.

What it costs

What you are hiringPer hourPer day
Main Hall£10.00£60.00
Annexe£5.00£40.00
Whole hall£15.00£80.00
KitchenIncludedIncluded

The hall is hired for at least 1 hour at a time. You are charged whichever works out cheaper, the hourly rate or the day rate — you never pay more for a long booking than a day would cost.

Children’s events are free; a donation towards running costs is appreciated but never required.

Please read the conditions of hire before you send this. Sending it means accepting them.

What you would like
Anything else?

The kitchen is charged separately.

When

If it runs past midnight, just give the time it finishes — one in the morning is 01:00.

About you

We will send you a link to confirm it. Nothing is held until you open that link.

Optional, but it is usually the quickest way to sort out a question.

A line is plenty — a birthday, a meeting, a class.

Sending this is an enquiry, not a confirmed booking. The council will be in touch.

What happens next

  • You send the request above.
  • If you are not logged in we email you a link to confirm your address. Until you open it, the time is not held.
  • Once confirmed, the time is held while the council looks at your request.
  • A councillor confirms the booking, and only then is it booked.

If you would rather talk to somebody

Not everything fits in a form — a funeral tea at short notice, a regular weekly slot, a question about whether the kitchen is big enough. Get in touch and we will sort it out.

The Church Hall

The Church Hall is not taking bookings through this website yet. Get in touch and we will put you on to whoever looks after it.
